Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has blamed veteran politicians for being a stumbling block to the much elusive Luhya unity. Without mentioning names, the Lugari MP said the old politicians have been misleading the community by being self-centred and causing divisions in order to get positions and material gain for themselves, yet people are stuck in poverty. “This narrative of Luhya unity has been existent for a long time, ever since I was still in primary school I heard about it , now am an MP and it’s still there…our leaders especially the elected older leaders and former elected leaders have been the biggest setback to Luhya unity,” he said, “Now we must work together, and some of us need to do away with their ego and sometimes, our positions, to make sure the community moves forward.”
The Saboti MP has said he’ll support calls for Luhya unity one last time ahead of the 2022 elections and if it doesn’t bear fruit then he’ll target the country’s top seat in 2027. “If as a community we won’t achieve the Luhya unity aspiration, and to front a President, then we’ll have to do away with self centred politicians whose only agenda is to make themselves richer at the expense of our people,” he said, “They should give an opportunity to young leaders from the region to make steps towards the Presidency, and I’ll be ready by 2027.”
