A new modern medical waste incinerator at the Busia County Referral Hospital that can burn over 150 kilograms of waste in an hour is almost complete. The Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr David Mukabi said the state-of-the-art incinerator will help handle the growing amount of medical waste disposal. “The machine which will be operational in the next one month will serve the entire County owing to its capacity,” he said.
He added that the incinerator is among the biggest in the region, adding that it will raise the profile of the hospital which has many on-going projects that are due for completion. The County Government will soon install a Computed Tomography (CT) Scan that will bring to an end referral cases to Kisumu or Eldoret in search of the same service.
The County’s Ultra-Modern Intensive Care and Emergency Units Centre will be ready by March 2019. Upon completion, the centre will elevate the status of Busia County Referral Hospital to level five. Cases of referring emergency cases to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital will be forgotten while the cost incurred in emergency evacuation is set to reduce drastically.
