Busia Members of the County Assembly have lauded the County government for undertaking the recruitment of 464 ECDE teachers and 25 Vocational Training Centre instructors.

The MCAs who were contributing to Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s annual address to the special sitting of the County Assembly also called for the implementation of what is contained in the Governor’s state of the County address.

Deputy Speaker Lawrence Okaale said members of the public will be happy to see ECDE teachers, VTC instructors, bursaries, scholarships and HELB loans are implemented on time.

“It will also be in the interest of County residents that Malaba-Kocholia and Mt Elgon water projects are given priority to alleviate water shortage in most parts of the county especially during dry season,” he said.

Okaale said the raft of measures unveiled by the Governor in improving on revenue collection through cashless system should be enhanced and punitive measures taken against revenue officers who are found culpable.

Agriculture committee chairman Joab Oteba said the pledge by the Governor to revive the cotton sector was laudable,  adding that the move would help create over 100,000 job opportunities.

He said lack of a vibrant cotton industry in Busia County had led to drastic increase in importation of second hand clothes (mitumba) amounting to over 53,000 tons.

Oteba said there was need by the County Government to embrace gravity driven water schemes in the county to cut on the electricity costs and the blue economy to mitigate on the global warning.

Amukura West MCA Abiud Ochilang’ole thanked the new team at the Public Works, Roads, Transport and Energy department for a job well done in infrastructure development.
