Nurses in Trans Nzoia have called for an overhaul in the public health sector management, which has been ailing since the onset of devolution. The nurses said the sorry state of affairs has compromised quality health service delivery in major hospitals in the region. The nurses’ calls were supported by other groups under the umbrella of Centre for Justice led by its chair Kepha, who’ve called for the dismissal of the County Health CEC. Were said the health sector in the County is in bad shape, and proposed radical changes in the sector, “Madam Tanguli is the least experienced, for that sector as she has no qualities that can help transform it,” said Were.
Nurses want Governor Khaemba to crack the whip and appoint new officials, with a medical training background, “The health CEC Christine Tanguli and the Chief Officer Charles Barasa have failed in discharging their duties, since they are trained in other fields,” said KNUN Trans Nzoia secretary Willy Sifuna. The nurses also want the County government to honor agreements honored, including better remuneration terms, “We’ll be forced to down our tools if the conditions we have set are not met by the County government, we’ve been taken for a ride for long,” said Sifuna. They further faulted some MCAs for derailing their calls for justice by inciting the public against medics at the Kitale Referral Hospital.
A group of MCAs under the Chairman for health sector in the Assembly are already working on a motion to compel Governor Khaemba to carry out changes at the health docket saying current officials are to blame for the current mess.
