Former premier Raila Odinga has affirmed that terrorists will never intimidate nor destroy the spirit of the people of Kenya. Speaking at Capitol Hill, Nairobi, Raila condemned the Tuesday attack at Dusit complex at 14 Riverside Drive, that claimed 14 lives, but said Kenya shall continue discharging its obligations to the citizens and commitment to the community of nations without looking over its shoulders. He said as a nation, we must reject divisions of all sorts, ranging from religious, ethnic, gender or even political, “Such divisions are what terrorists thrive on,” he said.

Raila said the fallen victims of the Riverside attack are the heroes in the war against international terrorism. On Tuesday, a swift response by the security team was witnessed, and many have commended the urgency, which led to a more successful rescue operation, initially led by DCI boss George Kinoti. Raila also commended the security forces and concerned Kenyans for being their brothers’ keepers and responding to calls for blood donations, “And we appreciate the professionalism of our caregivers and first responders,” he added.

He said despite the challenges Kenya faces in securing our homeland, we are learning and getting wiser and better with every unfortunate attack, “Our goal must remain the ability to completely keep these forces of evil out of our borders and weeding them entirely out of our midst,” he said.
