West Pokot leaders have asked politicians to stop focusing on politics this early and allow elected leaders to perform their constitutional mandate. West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and Sigor Member of Parliament Peter Lochakapong they said that it was too early for politicians to shift Kenyans to a campaign mood. “We just elected our leaders recently and those elected should be allowed to deliver for Kenyans and stop politicking about 2022 presidential succession,” said Lonyangapuo.

Lonyangapuo wondered why a section of leaders in the country had actively engaged in presidential succession politics and yet there is a president who is serving the nation and was elected by a majority of the Kenyans.

He said that political leaders should not take advantage of the handshake to destabilize the Jubilee party from delivering. “Kenyans expect a lot from the Jubilee government and we shall not allow few individuals to create disharmony in the party that will bar it from offering services to Kenyans,” he said.

The Governor also called on Kenyans to respect the arms of the government and allow different sectors to execute their mandate without interference. “We need to give the anti-corruption commission, national intelligence and director of prosecution ample time to execute their work without interference,” he said.

The West Pokot Governor also asked the president to call church leaders to hold prayers for the nation since the direction the country is headed to is not good. “We need church officials to prayer for this nation and curse demons that have infiltrated our leaders and want to destabilise peace and create a rift in the ruling party,” he said.

He also called on various communities in the country to stop grouping themselves and coming up with their perceived political lineage for 2022.

About David Murathe’s sentiments and following his resignation, Lochakapong said as Jubilee leaders they don’t know him and the utterances he has been making doesn’t represent the party’s agenda. “It’s good he resigned since he isn’t the right person to hold that position since he went against the party manifesto,” he said. The leaders were speaking at Sigor centre after touring the Wei Wei irrigation scheme.
