Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has ordered all driving schools in the country to ensure their licenses are revalidated by 1st July, “If they don’t have new generation licenses they’ll consider themselves closed.” Speaking in Nairobi, CS Matiang’i decried the state of some driving schools, and that the situation has been handled irresponsibly, paving the way for people who are unqualified to access the roads after acquiring licenses. He said from 2nd May, NTSA will be issuing new generation licenses and the driving schools will be inspected and revalidated and the level of compliance also checked to be sure they are environments that are worthy of preparing drivers.

He affirmed that from 2nd July, inspections by NTSA and police officers will be done in all driving schools to ensure they have adhered to the same. The Interior CS also revealed that he has asked NTSA to issue new inspection licenses to all towing and recovery vehicles on the roads, saying they have been left unchecked, “Many private vehicle owners know this, that some of their cars have been destroyed by these (towing) vehicles.” He said there might also be a collusion between the people in the towing business and police officers, “Anyone operating a towing and recovery vehicle will have to get a new inspections sticker.”
