The Kakamega Catholic Diocese Bishop Joseph Obanyi has sounded a warning to politicians who are taking advantage of the church dais to preach divisive politics, hatred and revenge to Kenyans, and has urged them to stop. Speaking at the Kakamega’s St Joseph’s Cathedral Church, the Bishop said that they have noted a tendency of politicians using the church to settle their scores or even elevate them, warning that they may be forced to ban them from the churches.
He called upon the politicians to be God-fearing and give respect to Christians by shunning away from the altar. Obanyi was speaking after leading the faithful in Kakamega in marking Good Friday. The Bishop also footed the bill to be tabled in parliament proposing that church leadership be considered in accordance with one’s academic papers saying that a number of churches, notably the Catholic church has its own constitution that determines the positions given to its faithful.
He argued that though the government may have its reasons for proposing education levels in church leadership circles to deal with issues like curbing conmen, they should, first of all, find out who is doing this and act according to the law for few are out to tarnish the name of the church.
Obanyi also called upon Christians across the world to observe the Easter celebrations by being considerate to the less fortunate in the society, the sick and any other person who may need their help.
