Lands Cabinet Secretary Mrs Farida Karoney has asked Nandi residents to turn up in large numbers and register for Huduma Namba in the remaining days, with the 45 days set by the government for registration culminating on May 18th. Speaking during the registration exercise at a Huduma Center in Kapsabet, Nandi County, Karoney who was accompanied by the Labour PS insisted on the essentials of acquiring the Huduma Namba.
The CS refuted claims that the process is satanic as perceived by some, and said it is a government programme geared towards enabling every Kenyan to access government resources without difficulties.
She said the Huduma Namba will be vital in improving accountability and management of NHIF services, and will also play a part in planning for the affordable housing programme and the implementation of the Big Four Agenda as a whole. She said it will reduce transactional costs for all Kenyans and minimize cases of Identification Cards’ theft among other benefits.
The process has come under close scrutiny with Kenyans wary of their data safety. On Tuesday, MPs voted to block the company supposedly providing technology for the exercise-IDEMIA Security-from doing business in the country. However, ICT CS Joe Mucheru dispelled any concerns that the move may affect the ongoing exercise, saying the government has no contract with the firm and that the IT structure of the NIIMS system has a robust make. He said the core software and infrastructure were engineered locally.
