Trans Nzoia County woman representative Janet Nangabo has asked MCAS in the County Assembly to work hand in hand with her office and the
Governor to ensure grabbed stadium land is handed back to the County so that necessary structures are put up that will help uplift sports in Trans Nzoia.

Speaking after attending a football tournament final she sponsored at Kenyatta stadium in Kitale, the woman rep was dismayed by the poor infrastructure in the County stadium disclosing that people have grabbed the stadium land for their own selfish gains.

She said as leaders they need to work together to ensure the lives of
residents within the County are improved, and called for soberness while
solving such issues that affect the residents.

Her sentiments were echoed by Tuwani MCA Benard Wambwa who said plans are under way to repossess the stadium land that has been grabbed. “We have done our bench marking in several Counties including Kakamega and Machakos where we have seen various stadiums put up by the respective County administrations and am here to report that the County government together with the Ministry of Lands have put up elaborate plans of repossessing the stadium land,” said Wambwa.

The MCA said at the moment no development can be achieved on the stadium given the few acres available to put up facilities.

Trans Nzoia Sports CEC Aggrey Chemonges said more than five acres of stadium land has been grabbed, and he warned those culpable to vacate and that plans are already underway to evict them. He said the County government will not rest until it repossesses the grabbed land, saying land grabbers should prepare for Court battles as they have proof land has been grabbed.

He however appealed to the public to support the County administration’s efforts concerning the same so that development can be initiated and completed within the targeted time frame. He also put on notice contractors who have failed to undertake their duties diligently, saying they’ll face a rough time if they don’t offer correct services.
