President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders to walk the talk when it comes to dealing with the ills in society. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park in Nairobi, he said leaders love talking about issues and making commitments but bringing the practical side to fruition is tough. “If only, just for a moment we could all just stop talking a little bit and put into practice the things we have said today, Kenya would be a different country in less than five years,” he noted.
He said what Kenyans want is action, “We can sing from the rooftops but all our people want is for us to do what we have said.” The theme for the prayer breakfast was The Dawn of a New Nation, and anti-graft talk was popular, from one of the dignitaries, Dr. Michael Hastings to Deputy President William Ruto, and it remains to be seen whether President Kenyatta’s plea will get the attention of Kenyans who have long complained about the prevailing corruption, country debt, poor leadership among other problems in Kenya.
South Sudan President Salva Kiir was also present, and President Kenyatta said peace in South Sudan is possible if there is the intention to have peace. He added that leadership is about service, “South Sudan people need peace in order to get the service they fought for.”
