After emerging giants of group A and qualifying for the semi final of the ongoing Western region secondary school games, Bungoma County champions St Mary’s Kibabii High School booked a final slot on Thursday afternoon having beaten Vihiga County representatives Ebwali secondary school 2~0
A journey that started with two consecutive goalless draws against Bunyala Model of Busia County and Emanani Muslim of Kakamega County, transpired a must win final group stage match against Vihiga’s Bugina school.
At the hands of their head coach Martin Wegulo, St Mary’s Kibabii uncontrollably thwacked Bugina 3~0 to directly book a slot in the semi final, after Bunyala Model and Emanani settled for a 1~1 draw.
Experienced Cosmos Nabungolo’s boys on the other hand qualified for the semi final after comfortably thrashing Mabunge of Busia county 5~0 in their final group stage match having received a disappointment of 1~0 loss against Ebwali in their opening match.
St Mary’s Kibabii however stepped up in the second half of the semi final one to secure a 2~0 win against underdogs Ebwali after the first half had ended with a barren draw.
Having attended the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom all stars tour in Spain a month ago, St Peters forward John Atem Kato manifested his energy in the second half against Bunyala Model to score a free header which settled their 2~0 win in the second semi final.

According to Western regional general secretary Quinto Omusugu, the boys under 20 final match between Bungoma based St Mary’s Kibabii and St Peters Mumias of Kakamega will be staged at Sudi Stadium due to security reasons.
“We want to avoid hooliganism in this matter. Sudi Stadium is well fenced and no one can cause any trouble and that’s why as the organisers we decided to take this game there.” Said Quinto
Only one team is expected to represent Western region at the nationals level which will be staged in Kisumu in July.
