A family in Nambami village in Webuye West constituency, Bungoma County is in shock after a newborn baby was found dumped in their pit latrine. According to the narrative, an expectant form three student, Malin Khayanga had gone to visit her grandmother, yet her condition was unknown.
On Monday night after supper, she started complaining of severe backaches and a stomach upset, and the hosting family suspected it was due to the food they had eaten. However, the girl delivered a baby in the middle of the night, without anyone’s help, and dumped the baby in the latrine.

In the morning the girl’s grandmother went to check on her but was shocked to see a pool of blood, she also heard cries coming from the pit latrine. She found the baby dumped there and called the police who rescued the baby and took her to Webuye Sub County hospital.
Tests revealed the baby is fine, weighing 3.1 Kgs and is in a stable condition. The baby’s mother has, however, been arrested and placed under police custody as she awaits trial in court. The girl refused to talk to the press.
