It’s a new dawn for Nzoia Sugar Company after its board approved Mike Makokha Wanjala as the new managing director of the company to take over from Ignatius Wanjala who has been at the helm in an acting capacity for seven months.
In his address to the press, the new MD said he is aware of the challenges facing the company that include workers payment arrears as well as payments to farmers who have been supplying cane to the factory.
He said he is focused on having the workers welfare as his priority saying their output will be pegged on how they are treated at the company.
The Company board of directors chairman Joash Wamang’oli said the process of recruiting the new MD was conducted in a fair manner saying mike emerged the winner and they are counting on him to revamp the company.
He said it is unfortunate that workers have had to endure hardships by going without salaries for some months saying the new managing director must ensure the good status of the company must be brought back to boost the economy of the county and country.
His sentiments were echoed by the outgoing acting managing director Ignatius Wafula who said with support of the government and the political class the company will regain its stable status.
However, the press conference ended prematurely after the board chairman shielded questions directed by scribes to the new MD saying he is new in office and was not in a position to answer technical questions.
