The Bungoma County government through its Health Ministry has been urged to provide sufficient medicine and medical equipment to all the hospitals and health facilities in the County to enhance access to health services. Speaking in Malaha, Webuye West Sub County, politician Steve Biko said the state of hospitals in Bungoma County is poor, since most of them lack medicine and modern equipment, “We all know that health was devolved and we expect the County through the Health Ministry to make sure there is sufficient medicine, staff and equipment in the current facilities,” he said, adding that other facilities can’t be set up when the current ones haven’t improved.
He said the Bungoma County government should emulate Makueni, where health has been prioritized and residents are reaping the benefits. He further urged the Governor and Health CEC Anthony Walela to visit some of the health facilities, including the ones in Malaha, Bokoli, Milo to see the poor state they are in. On the upcoming census, he urged Bungoma residents, especially Webuye West residents to come out and be counted, since it will prove beneficial when it comes to disbursing development funds. He said parents shouldn’t hide their children and that chiefs should ensure everyone is counted.
However, he opposed the Punguza Mizigo Bill fronted by Dr. Ekuru Aukot, saying the main problem facing Kenya is corruption and not the need for a referendum. He said graft takes away approximately Kshs 1 trillion of the country’s budget, and that Aukot should’ve assessed that more instead of proposing the scrapping off some positions in the government structures and creation of others just to benefit a few people.
