Ugandan security forces in collaboration with their counterparts in
Kenya along the Suam border of Kenya and Uganda worked in unison during the census to make sure locals that crossed over to Uganda to buy alcohol were brought back to Kenya and counted.
Speaking to the press, Trans Nzoia County commissioner Samson Ojwang said several Kenyans who had moved to Uganda during the first day of the census exercise were brought back to join their colleagues in Kenya for the census exercise.
Ojwang said due to good relationships between the two countries
concerning border issues, Uganda security agencies were alert and ready
to bring back the citizens who were reluctant to take part in the exercise which he said was constitutional
He, however, disclosed that a middle aged man was arrested in a bar at
Namanjalala area of Kwanza Sub County for failing to go back home in time for the census exercise.
He said the man was drunk and after being asked by security officers to
leave the venue and go home, he was rude and used abusive language, prompting his arrest.
He said the suspect will be arraigned in court for going against the
government’s directive as well as using abusive language against
security officers.
