Luyha leaders have affirmed their readiness to unite the Luhya community before the 2022 general elections. Speaking during the 27th anniversary of the late Henry Pius Masinde Muliro at Sibanga village in Cherangany constituency, Trans Nzoia County, leaders from the region led by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said now is the best time to decide who will fly the Luhya presidential flag. “It’s the right time for us to unite and not be used as has previously been the case,” said Mudavadi, adding that the ceremony was meant to bring all Luyha leaders together to resolve their conflicts.

On the other hand, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula assured the residents of his commitment to push for a referendum, saying the current constitution is hindering other communities’ access to power, “This constitution is all about the winner takes it all, but if we take it back to the parliamentary system of government, I’m sure we will take our country to the next level.”

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa urged all national leaders to give the Building Bridges task force time to release its findings, saying it will provide a better platform for a referendum, sentiments that were echoed by Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny. Many leaders from the region were present at the event, including MPs and Governors.
