Preparations for the anniversary of the late politician Henry Pius Masinde Muliro are ongoing and Kenyans have been invited to attend the function that will be held at his home at Sibanga, Cherangany constituency in Trans Nzoia County. Former Webuye MP Musikari Kombo said there are various committees tasked with ensuring the commemoration is a success. Speaking to West Media at the late Muliro’s home, Kombo said this was the first
anniversary to be celebrated since the late Masinde Muliro died and it’s because most leaders from the region haven’t been speaking in one voice.
He hinted that a lecture at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on 12th August will precede the celebration slated for 14th August, and members of the public have been urged to attend. The lecture will include different scholars. “We did request the administration of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to partner with us during this year’s celebrations and they were willing to work with us in
various functions, including the inaugural lecture about the late (Muliro),” said Kombo.
Kombo, however, urged leaders who will attend the function not
to turn the function into a political event, where some may try to outwit each other whenever given the opportunity. He said the late Muliro was a peace maker and one who united the Western region and the nation as a whole, adding that leaders who will attend the function should preach messages of peace and harmony.
The late Masinde Muliro was a doyen of Kenyan politics who fought for
the second liberation of this country with some political muscle in
Western and Kenya as a whole. He died on 14th August 1992.
