Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has decided to set aside his differences with the current Kakamega market traders’ leadership after a long period of push and pull. The rift started early last year, after the Senator raised over Kshs 3 million in a well attended fundraiser, which was later used to buy a bus for the traders’ Sacco. Sections of the market leadership felt left out and took issue with the Senator, who seemed unbothered by the tension which coincidentally started just before the election of the current market leadership.
Things got out of hand when Senator Malala decided to support another group of leaders during the market elections that eventually lost to his new found rivals, the current leadership.
During the come together meeting, the Kakamega Senator asked for forgiveness from the current leadership and promised to start building bridges between the two camps which emanated from the previous election. “It’s now my responsibility as a Senator to reach out to the other group and have a similar sitting that will lead to harmony in our market,” he said.
In their response, the traders’ leadership spearheaded by Martha Kendi who is the vice chairperson, appreciated the Senator for proving his leadership qualities and asked him to indulge Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on the intended construction of the Masingo market.
