An immediate ban has been announced on the ban on adoption of children by foreigners. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held at State House, Nairobi, which was led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, attended by Deputy President William Ruto and Cabinet secretaries. The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has also been directed to formulate a new policy document to regulate the adoption of children by foreign nationals in Kenya.
This is on the back of the much publicized story of three-year-old Baby Kiano, a Kenyan, who had been adopted by Matt and Daisy Mazzoncini, American citizens. The baby had been taken from the couple by the Child Welfare Society of Kenya and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officials back in April, but they have recently been reunited.
Cabinet has also approved Kshs 6.9 bilion for the development of an Inland Container Depot, Railway Marshalling Yard, Logistics Zone and Public Utility Area and other infrastructure to support the development of the Naivasha Special Economic Zone and the completion of the SGR Phase 2A. The hosting of the Nairobi summit of the 25th International Conference on Population and Development, which will be held from 12th to 14th November, has also been approved.
