The County government of Nandi through the department of Health and Sanitation is holding a vaccination exercise for Human pappilomavirus (HPV), from Thursday at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Namgoi. Speaking to West Media, Health CEC Ruth Koech said the programme will be launched at the County level on Thursday and thereafter across the sub counties. The public will also be sensitized on the importance of the vaccine.
She said that HPV is an infection that causes growth of warts in various parts of the body depending on the strain. It’s one of the most common sexually transmitted infection(STI) that spreads by sexual contact, and is closely linked to cervical cancer.
She said the vaccine helps in protecting against certain types of HPV that can lead to cancer or genital warts. The target population for the HPV vaccination is girls and boys aged nine to thirteen years. The vaccination and sensitization will be contacted in every sub-county as follows:
Aldai-Kobujoi dispensary
Tindiret-Maraba sub-county hospital
Nandihills-Nandihills countyhospital
Emgwen-Chepkumia pefa church
Chesumei-Mosoriot market
Mosop-Kapng’etuny dispensary.
