Deputy president William Ruto has urged ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula to support Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga in the Kibra by-election slated for November if they are serious about Luhya unity. Speaking at Malinya grounds in Kakamega County during the requiem mass of the late Mama Adelaide Shikanga Khalwale, the wife to Boni Khalwale, DP Ruto posed the challenge to the leaders.

He said that the two have been on the forefront fighting for Luhya unity and a chance has presented itself to ensure that a son from the community scoops the Kibra MP seat.

He also refuted claims that the Jubilee party will in the 2022 elections have candidates with direct tickets. He argued that Jubilee as a party is democratic and each member interested in a given seat will have to undergo the due process to get the ticket.

He further urged Kenyans to consider frequent cancer screening as away of curbing the many cancer deaths. He said cancer can be cured but only if it’s detected on time. He said that as a government they want to ensure that each County in the country has a cancer screening centre urging nurses and other medical practitioners to consider educating and informing patients visiting their premises on the importance of screening.

ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi speaking during a Requiem Mass that was organized at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology where the late worked as an office assistant pointed fingers at the Jubilee government for failing to appoint permanent leaders at the University with most of them being there in acting position for over a year.

He said that was dangerous for any institution for it bars the acting persons from making any concrete decisions that can move an institution forward.

He also rebuked the Nandi County land tussle that has led to the displacement of over 200 families blaming the Ministry of Land officials for sleeping on their job. “The Land Ministry failed to act 40 years ago leading to the displacement of many families in Nandi County and as leaders we must ensure that institutions perform their duties diligently to avoid  a repetition of this.

Mudavadi congratulated the recent move by the Catholic church to stop questionable fund raising in the church terming it a move to curb corruption. On his part, Boni Khalwale rubbished the Education Cabinet Secretary’s suggestion to merge a number of universities in the country among them MMUST.

He argued that with the current population of over 55 million people in the country higher learning institutions need to be increased and not reduced or merged. He said that such institutions add to the region’s economic and social growth and thus need for them to be encouraged and not killed.
