ODM leaders on Wednesday met IEBC officials to iron out issues raised against the electoral body ahead of the Kibra by election on November 7th. Speaking after the meeting, ODM chairman John Mbadi said IEBC will avail the voter register, with details from 2107 to the time registration in Kibra stopped, including the newly registered voters, and internal and external transfers”We expressed our concern to the IEBC because we had communicated to IEBC earlier on the issues of the register and we weren’t getting a good response,” he said.
Mbadi pointed out that the register will be made available to all the parties involved in the by-election. He said the final register which is being verified and will be approved by IEBC will be availed next week. IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said they discussed the issues of poll officials, and all poll officials in the by-election will be made known to the political parties through the office of the registrar of political parties.
They also talked about ICT use during the by-elections, “There will be no transmission of results from polling stations to the tallying centre, the law provides for transmission for presidential elections. The KIEMS kits will be used only for verification and keeping the data for identification,” said Chebukati.
On Tuesday, ODM had made known their plans to hold a demo at the IEBC offices owing to the fact that the voter register hadn’t been made known. According to the party officials, they had written to the commission on September 20th requesting the updated voter register of Kibra constituency.
