Rafiki area resident in Saboti sub county, Trans Nzoia County have held
peaceful demonstrations demanding the removal of the area assistant
chief Susan Mwalie, citing harassment and corruption, which they claim have increased in the area.

While carrying placards with messages of graft and a poor working
relationship between the assistant chief and locals, they claimed the
administrator has been ruling with an iron fist without any consultation as
well as using a vulgar language while handling cases in the area.

They  went ahead and locked the office of area assistant chief, saying they won’t accept her and called for the installation of another assistant chief who hails from the area, noting that she doesn’t come from the area. “We won’t allow this assistant chief to remain here as she has been
treating us with no respect. She has been insulting us whenever we go
to her office and we shall remain vigilant, guarding this office,” said one of the residents.

Another allegation leveled against her was an inefficiency to handle a domestic violence case that was presented to her, claiming she told the couple to break up. They also alleged that she said the residents aren’t educated enough to produce an assistant chief from the area.

The elderly claimed she ignored them and made up a list of cash transfer beneficiaries featuring her friends, leaving out other certified beneficiaries. “We have the elderly who are getting cash transfer funds, who according to
us, don’t qualify,” said one local. They added that defilement cases have become rampant in the area and she has failed to curb the bad trend.

They have appealed to the regional commissioner George Natembeya, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam
Ojwang to intervene and make sure the assistant chief doesn’t report to her office again.
