Francis Wabuke has been appointed the acting general manager of Mumias Sugar Company. Wabuke has been appointed by the receiver manager PVR Rao. Wabuke is a former employee of the Booker Tate Company. The move is part of a step to ensure the company’s revival process is a success, after the cash strapped miller was placed under receivership by KCB back in September to protect its assets and maintain its operations. Rao said the they are working on a revival strategy that will ensure they kick start the milling operations after carrying out the repairs and maintenance of the factory.
The move comes weeks after the contracts of Mumias Sugar Company employees were terminated, following the decision to place the Company under receivership. In a notice dated 5th November, the Company noted that all employees’ contracts stand terminated from the date of receivership i.e 20th September 2019, and their payments will be dealt with accordingly, “Any payment to the affected employees shall be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law,” read part of the notice. Employees are now dealt with on a temporary basis.
