Governors drawn from the frontier Counties have visited landslide victims at Tamkal in Muino, Pokot Central sub county where hundreds of affected families are camping at Tamkal primary school.
West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo said poor weather conditions have greatly affected the distribution of aid, adding that they are upbeat all will be done to address the issues and assist the affected families.
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis expressed the Governors’ condolences adding that as neighbouring Counties they will ensure that they support all the affected families. Kiptis further appealed to the locals to move away from the hilly and steep places.
Marsabit Governor Mohamed Ali said they’ll stand with West Pokot County and urged residents to cooperate with the County government and move away from landslide prone areas.
He said that it is saddening to lose such a number of people in such an unexpected way and that the FCDC Counties will offer their support.
The chair of FCDC Ali Roba was also present and accompanied by Wajir Deputy Governor Ali Muhktar who also sent his message of condolence to the families. So far the death toll has risen to 58 after more bodies were recovered.
