The increased criticisms and speculations over the 2019 Kenya population and housing census results have forced the Kenya Bureau of Statistics to come out and defend the results.

Addressing the press, Director General KNBS Mr. Zachary Mwangi said that the results were not necessarily one to one with the political boundaries but followed administrative boundaries. He also said that Mortality, Fertility and Migrations are some of the factors that influenced the size of the population.

Immediately after the release of the census results, speculation has been rife among politicians, some saying this could be a ploy to shape up the 2022 general elections and there is no credibility with the results. In the census, the most populous Counties include Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Kakamega and Bungoma.

According to KNBS, other Volumes will be out before February 2020. This will include population by administrative units (up to sub-location level), age & sex by County, political units (constituencies & wards) and Housing & Socio-economic characteristics.

Back in last month, Enumerators among other census personnel raised complains over late payment by the government agency. The DG Zachary Mwangi confirmed that over 150,000 enumerators have been paid and about 10,000 have not received their payment as pending cases of KRA PIN and Bank accounts which were provided are inactive.
