Women and girls from Lugari sub county received a donation of re-usable sanitary pads from the Global Peace Women organization. Speaking during the event held at Lumakanda Salvation Army and which brought together women and girls drawn from all the six wards from the sub county, Mrs. Nancy Mudeheli who organized the event said the aim of donating the re-usable pads was to save them the cost of buying the sanitary towels every month.
She said with reusable pads the women only required four pads for the whole year and will help them save money for other basics.
Mudeheli who vied for Kakamega County woman representative seat in the last general election said there were plans to put up a pads processing plant in Lugari and the products will be donated freely to women and girls in the area.

Regretting challenges faced by school going girls during their periods especially in rural areas, Mrs. Mudeheli said Global Peace Women was committed to reducing the number of girls who miss classes for lack of sanitary towels.
“We want to ensure we keep our girls in schools and no one misses classes during their periods because this really affect thems academically,” said Mrs. Mudeheli.
She said women all over should be able to receive sanitary pads for free saying they are not a luxury, but a necessity for all girls.
Elsewhere, she disclosed that Global Peace Women organization was planning to roll out various projects aimed at empowering women socially and economically within Lugari Sub County.
