A family from Lumakanda in Lugari sub county is appealing for help to enable it settle a hospital bill of over Kshs 3.3 million and be allowed to bury its kin who died two months ago.
Speaking to West Media, Rachael Boge and her brother Aggrey Mazizi Malesi said their sister Jennifer Afandi was admitted on 1st July, 2019 at Top Hill hospital in Eldoret under Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering from a stroke.
Mrs. Boge said their sister spent 3 months at the hospital before she succumbed at the beginning of the month of October leaving a bill of over Kshs 3.8 million.
She said NHIF helped them pay Kshs 500, 000 but the hospital management has refused to give them the remains of their sister until the bill is fully cleared.
According to Mr. Malesi the family has thrice tried to organize for a fund drive to settle the bill unsuccessfully. “First we raised Kshs 67,000, then we managed to get Kshs 30, 000 and on the third occasion we raised nothing,” said Malesi, disclosing that the arrears stood at Kshs 3,356, 270.
The deceased’s body is currently at Racecourse mortuary Eldoret until the bill is cleared before the family is given for burial. The family is now appealing to well-wishers to help it settle the bill.
