A dark cloud has enveloped Bendera village in Lumakanda location, Lugari Sub County after a house wall collapsed and killed one person. According to the deceased’s brother Mr. Solomon Muyesu Khamala, his brother Justus Asutsa Muyes had been hired to demolish a house whose owner died several years back when the tragedy occurred.
“He had been hired to demolish the house of the late Barasa Murunga who died several years ago when he met his death,” said Khamala.
He said the deceased was trying to push down the structure when the wall dislodged, hitting him on the head and left him unconscious.
He said it took time to locate his brother who was completely covered by debris after the whole structure fell on him.
He was rescued later and rushed to Lumakanda sub county hospital in critical condition but died moments later as they were preparing to transfer him to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
According to elders from the area, such houses whose owner have died are not supposed to be demolished without performing rituals as per the African traditions to appease the spirits of the dead.
They said if the tradition is disobeyed then such houses normally claim the lives of those demolishing them. The body was later taken to Chebaiywa mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
