Three people died on the spot while several others sustained serious injuries following a fatal accident that occurred at Kipsangui area near Nangili trading centre along Eldoret– Kitale road in Likuyani Sub County on Thursday evening.
Confirming the incident, Likuyani Sub County Police Commander Boniface Lisiolo said the accident involved a Sabatia Safaris Sacco minibus Reg. No KCR 883U and a private van Reg. No KBZ287L.
The police boss said the accident occurred following a tyre burst on the minibus making the driver unable to control it and it collided head-on with the van that was approaching from the opposite side.
Both drivers and one passenger who was in the van died on the spot while about twenty passengers who were travelling in the minibus sustained serious injuries.
Those injured were rescued and rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldore and Likuyani County hospital.
The minibus was on its way from Luanda in Vihiga county heading to Matunda while the van was ferrying sheep from Kitale towards Eldoret when the accident occurred. All the sheep also died on the spot. The wreckages of the two vehicles were towed to Matunda police station.
