Police officers in Bungoma arrested three suspects in possession of leopard skin and python skin estimated to be 5 metres long. According to the area OCPD Wilson Nanga, the three are said to have already struck a deal with Mombasa-based clients who were willing to purchase the skins at Kshs 300,000.
The Bungoma DCI boss pretended to purchase the items and managed to arrest the suspects on Sunday at around 2 pm in Bungoma town after a period of thorough investigations beforehand.
The three suspects, John Ochaya, Jane Onyango and Lawrence Mapesa are be;leived to reside in Kakamega County, but it remains to be known where they got the skins.
They were arraigned at the Bungoma law courts on Monday to face charges, and the prosecution has been given seven days to complete investigations into the matter. The items will be taken to the Kenya Wildlife Service offices in Nairobi as the probe continues.
