Mauko village in Butula sub county, Busia County was engulfed in a sorrowful mood as five people who perished in a tragic road accident which took place in December were laid to rest. Simon Oliero Oundo 35, his wife Eunice Oliero, 25, and their 11-year-old daughter Ivone Oliero were laid to rest on Friday while two of their neighbours whom they were with in the same car were buried on Saturday.
They were travelling home for the Christmas celebrations when their private car was involved in a tragic accident along Ebuyangu-Ekero road.
Simon’s other three daughters aged 7, 5 and 3 years survived the accident, two were treated and discharged from hospital while one is still at Kakamega County referral hospital.
Family members led by Simon’s mother Bentah Oundo have appealed to the government and other well-wishers to come in and help the three orphans to continue with their studies, “Simon was my elder brother and a breadwinner in this family and now he is no more. He has left behind three children, we appeal for help. We really need help in this home.”
The burials were attended by various leaders led by Busia County Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, Nambale MP Hon. John Bunyasi and Marachi East Member of County Assembly Julius Ochou who promised to do all they can to ensure the remaining family members get help.
