Two people died on the spot on Saturday evening while 25 others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents along Eldoret-Webuye highway in Lugari sub county. In the first incident that occurred at about 7:30 pm at Lwandeti trading center two people perished on the spot while ten sustained  serious injuries in an accident that involved a Nissan Matatu.

The accident occurred after the Matatu driver who was travelling towards Eldoret tried to avoid ramming a static West Kenya Sugar Company truck which had developed a mechanical problem along the highway.  The driver swerved before he lost control and collided head on with a canter that was approaching from the opposite direction killing two on the spot while the canter occupants and other passengers in the Matatu sustained serious injuries.

The injured were rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital while the bodies were take to the same facility’s mortuary.

In another incident that occurred earlier, 15 members of one family escaped death by a whisker following an accident that occurred at Musembe along the same highway. The accident occurred after the driver a pickup vehicle they were travelling in tried to avoid colliding on with a truck that was carelessly overtaking another truck from the opposite direction.
The driver of the speeding pickup lost control and swayed before falling in the middle of the highway injuring it’s occupants.

The injured were rescued and rushed to Lumakanda County hospital with some being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret. The family was on it’s way from the neighbouring Bungoma County where it had attended a ceremony to pass a rite in relation to the death of it’s kin when the accident occurred just few meters from their home.
