The Nandi Finance CEC Mr. Alfred Lagat, who was impeached by the County Assembly last week, appeared before an assembly ad hoc committee on Tuesday to answer to allegations leveled against him, including abuse of office among others. Lagat was grilled for more than four hours by the committee and he answered all the questions, with the opportunity given to provide all the facts and back up his answers.

He faces ten counts against him, among them failure to manage County assets, remit funds to relevant statutory bodies, failure to adhere to procurement processes, declining of revenue collections and inability to clear pending bills despite constant budgetary allocations among others.
The motion to i,peach him was moved by Kiptuiya ward Member of County Assembly Geoffrey Kevolwe and seconded by Tindiret Member of County Assembly Kipkurui Chepkwony.

In his defence, Lagat said the County treasury has paid a total of Kshs 762 million in pending bills and that revenue collection has been increasing and not the other way round, citing that in the 2018/2019 financial year, they collected Kshs 286 million, an improvement on the previous Kshs 197 million. The fate of the CEC now lies with the ad hoc committee, which will prepare a final report and verdict.
