One person died on the spot on Tuesday afternoon while three sustained serious injuries after a truck was involved in an accident before bursting into flames near Kaburengu trading centre along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.
According to eye witnesses, the truck brakes failed as it descended towards the Nzoia bridge making it difficult for the driver to control it before it hit a motorbike rider on the side of the road killing him on the spot.
The truck then veered off the road, brushed past an iron sheet walled building where it injured one person before it fell and burst into flames.
The driver and another occupant escaped with injuries after managing to jump from the vehicle before it caught fire.
Firefighters from West Kenya Sugar Company and Kakamega County government arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire from spreading into the nearby buildings.

Speaking to West Media at the scene of the incident, Kivaywa sub location assistant chief Mr. Alex Waguhah Goricho said the motorbike rider who perished on the spot was a resident of Webuye and he was on his way back home after attending a church meeting at Nzoia village in Lwandeti location.
The truck was transporting construction materials from the Kenyan coast to the neighbouring Uganda when the accident occurred.
The injured were rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital as the deceased’s body was also taken to the same facility’s mortuary.
