West Governor John Lonyangapuo has banned all public forums and instructed County employees to work from home in a bid to fight the possible spread of the coronavirus.
The County boss pointed out that the County government of West Pokot has come up with a raft of measures to ensure its residents are safe.
He said that County employees are encouraged to work from home except those working in critical departments which include health, water, sanitation and finance.
The Governor suspended all weekly open air and livestock markets across the County for the next 30 days.
He called on public transport to observe hygiene by use of hand washing facilities preferably with liquid soap or alcohol-based sanitizers at the stages.
At a press conference at the County headquarters in Kapenguria, Lonyangapuo suspended all public gatherings such harambees, weddings, funerals or cultural activities with immediate effect until further notice, and that hand washing facilities must be availed at critical points.
Lonyangapuo has further suspended hawking activities across the County, ordered the closure of all night clubs across the County for the next 30 days. “Hotels must maintain high levels of hygiene and avoid overcrowding by observing one metre distance between individuals,” he said.
