The County government of Trans Nzoia has launched a mass fumigation exercise on roads and markets in the region in a bid to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. Area Deputy Governor Dr. Stanley Kenei Tarus said the exercise will see Chlorine based disinfectant also sprayed on buildings to supplement other protective measures put in place. “The fumigation exercise is part of the measures we have put in place to combat the spread of the virus in this region. We are targeting roads and our markets,” said Dr. Tarus.
He called on locals to observe the precautionary measures put in place by the Ministry of Health to combat the spread of the virus with a key emphasis on residents to stay at home. “We are calling on the residents of Trans Nzoia to avoid crowding.
Don’t come to town if you have nothing important to do so that we can jointly achieve the social distancing guidelines,” he said.
The area County Commissioner Samson Ojwang sounded an alarm to religious leaders in the region calling on them to desist from congregating saying they will be arrested and charged. “We are vigilant across the County to ensure we apprehend all that are trying some tricks in a bid to continue with their services despite the ban. Pray at home,” said Mr. Ojwang.
He also appealed to boda boda operators in the area to observe the traffic laws always as well as work in coordination with security officials claiming that some have not been following the procedures laid down by the security team. On her part Trans Nzoia Health CEC Claire Wanyama appealed to the well wishers as well as the national government to increase funding for purchase of fumigation drugs.
