The national and County governments have put in place stringent measures to ensure travelers entering West Pokot County observe the Ministry of Health directives on Covid-19. All motorists and motorbike riders entering the County alight and wash their hands with water and soap under the supervision of security officers before continuing their journey.
West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and the County Commissioner Apollo Okello who launched the exercise have urged all passengers to obey the precautionary measures, to avoid any possible Coronavirus spread in the County.
Governor Lonyangapuo said that all four entry points at County borders have been earmarked for sanitizing. “We have identififed and mapped out all potential entry points in West Pokot. The Kitale–Lodwar highway entry Point at Murkwijit, Uganda–Kacheliba point at Alakas, the Marich entry point and Chesegon entry point have tanks with water meant for washing hands,” said Lonyangapuo.
Lonyangapuo insisted that every vehicle or motorbike should have a sanitizer. “Let’s embrace the culture of washing hands. We shall not leave anything to chance.”
He lauded residents for adhering to the 7 PM to 5 AM curfew saying it is working well in the County.
County Commissioner Okello called on residents to be wary of the deadly Coronavirus and called on area residents to follow the regulations given out by the Ministry of Health. “We have put in place measures like closing of pubs and open markets to curb the spread of the disease which spreads fast in densely populated environments,” he noted, adding that the markets will be fumigated.
