Transport was delayed for sometime on Lunao- Myanga road in Bumula Constituency Bungoma County after the local Mayanja stream flooded due to the heavy rains that are being experienced across the country and residents were unable to cross the bridge that connects the two areas.

Residents of the areas bordering the stream who carry out their businesses on Myanga market revealed how they woke up early as usual to get to the market to do their business and were shocked by the flooded bridge.

“I woke up early today heading to Myanga market to open my workshop since I’m a carpenter only to get stuck here on this road. I could not cross this bridge because there is water all over, and all the people using this road are stranded, we cannot cross over to the other side to do our businesses,”  said Meshack from Lunao.

“I come from Station area and I sell maize on Myanga market, I woke up today and found this bridge flooded with water, people are stuck here we are unable to go and do our businesses,” said Mary Nyongesa.

They have urged the leaders of the area to act hastily and ensure that the problem is solved by building another bridge so that they continue with their daily activities especially during this period when the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the economic sector.

“It is my plea to Bumula ward and Kimaeti ward MCAs to unite and put up the bridge for us, our area MP had promised to build this bridge in three months. He should have some mercy since we are really suffering during this pandemic period,” she added.

Another resident, who works at an electronics repair shop said the leaders should intervene since their daily economic activities have been affected after the bridge was submerged, “It is really difficult for us to get our daily income especially during this Coronavirus pandemic period. We are pleading with our leaders to assist us or else life will become harder,” said Simon Wekesa.
