Nangili residents in Likuyani sub county defied the government’s directive banning crowds as a measure to curb the spread of Coronavirus as they turned out in large numbers in a burial ceremony of one of the boda boda riders from the area.
Without observing all the guidelines issued by the government the mourners came out in hundreds and freely interacted without caring about the danger they might be exposing themselves to as far as the spread of Coronavirus is concerned.
However some of the concerned residents expressed their disappointment over the careless behaviour of the locals. “I pity my people of Nangili, it seems they are not seeing how this disease is ravaging the world. I think they are the doubting Thomases who want to touch the scar for them to believe,” said Mr. Titus Mulama.
Mr. Mulama urged the residents to take the virus seriously and strictly adhere to the safety precautions given by the government for the sake of their lives and that of their loved ones.
“Coronavirus is real, let’s not joke around with it. Do we want to see one of our own killed or infected by it for us to believe it’s there? I beg you, please let us get serious and take precaution,” said Mulama.
None of the administrators from the area attended the funeral to give direction as the service went on for about five hours against the government’s directive.
