Kenya Seed Company has contributed 100 containers with sanitizers in Trans Nzoia County in an effort geared towards combating the Covid-19. Speaking during the launch of the disbursement of the sanitizers at the Trans Nzoia County Government’s office in Kitale, the Company’s managing director Azaria Soy said the Company saw it good to distribute the sanitizers in the fight against the Coronavirus. “We have decided that as a way of giving back to the community and helping in the eradication of the Covid-19 pandemic, we contribute the 100 containers which will be distributed in 25 wards,” he said.

He also assured farmers of an adequate seeds supply during this tough season, saying there is no cause for alarm from farmers concerning inadequate seeds’ availability in the County.

On his part, Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Stanley Kenei Tarus thanked the Kenya Seed Company for availing the sanitizers, saying they’ll go a long way in helping the residents. He said the County government was ready to collaborate with other well wishers who might come on board in its efforts to deal with the pandemic.

He admitted that at the moment, the County government is ill prepared to deal with any cases of Covid-19, because they have received no funding from the national government, contrary to some reports.

On her part, Trans Nzoia Health CEC Claire Wanyama said so far seven people were quarantined, and four have tested negative so far. She appealed to the locals within the County to observe proper hygiene including regular hand washing, social distancing as well as adhering to other Ministry of Health regulations.

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang warned politicians who might use the opportunity to pose as philanthropists to gain political mileage and to pass their political messages, “We have information concerning a section of leaders who are using the avenue to campaign for their candidature and have gone against the norm of helping the community,” revealed Ojwang.
