Covid-19 cases in Kenya have surpassed the 1,000 mark after 66 more people tested positive out of 2,621 tested samples in 24 hours. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the cumulative cases are now at 1,029. The new cases are in Mombasa (30), Nairobi (26), Kajiado (3), Busia (1), Kisii (1), Uasin Gishu (1), Nakuru (1), Kirinyaga (1), Makueni (1) and Meru (1).
8 more patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours. The Health CS notes with concern the rising cases in Mombasa County, singling out Likoni and Changamwe. In Mombasa, the 30 cases are in Likoni 10, Kisauni 8, Changamwe 3, Nyali 3, Jomvu 3 and Mvita 3. In Nairobi, the cases are in Kibra 15, Lang’ata 3, Starehe 2, Dagoretti 2, Westlands 1, Eastleigh 1, Mathare 1 and Dandora 1. In Kajiado and Busia Counties, the cases are at the border entry points. In Kisii, the case is at Bobasi, in Uasin Gishu at Maili nne, in Nakuru at Naivasha, in Makueni at Emali.
Furthermore, the government has extended the cessation of movement into and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa till 6th June, with malls, eateries, restaurants also remaining closed till 6th June. The government has also received 2 mobile labs, one will be stationed at Namanga and the Kenya-Tanzania border and another at Naivasha, where there is a dry port. They have a combined capacity to do 2,000 tests per day.
