As heavy rains continue to come down in various parts of the country, more families have been displaced by floods in Lugari Sub County after Sosian River broke its bank at Chemichemi and Sosian villages in Mwamba sub location.
One of the victims, Mr. Anthony Panyako, a resident of Sosian village is counting loses after his houses were completely swept away leaving nothing behind, not even a single pole.
Panyako said the river broke its bank during a heavy downpour on Sunday evening and he only manage to rescue his family and ran to a neighbor’s house.
However he says after the rain was over he was shocked when he checked outside and saw his whole structure was swept away.
“I just looked from a distance since the whole place had turned into a river and it was shocking because my house was not there,” said Panyako.
Panyako’s immediate neighbor Mrs. Ann Joshua was not spared either, one of her houses was also swept away with others remaining submerged in water with no access to them.
A similar situation was witnessed in Chemichemi village where also tens of residents have been rendered homeless by the floods.
The affected families have been housed by good Samaritans in the area and are appealing for humanitarian support after losing all their property.
“Even though we have lost everything we thank God nobody has lost his or her life but our biggest problem here is food. We are appealing to both the national and county government of Kakamega and other organizations to come to our aid,” said one of the residents.
