Trans Nzoia Woman representative Janet Nangabo and Kwanza MP Ferdinand
Wanyonyi have called for urgent and permanent solutions to end the problem of perennial floods. This comes after two people drowned in separate incidents in Kwanza, one in a river and another in a dam structure. The area has also been affected by flooding following heavy rainfall experienced in Trans Nzoia and the whole country.
“The government must move with speed and put in place measures to end severe flooding which has affected many communities now at great risk. The flood prevention mechanisms we keep seeing yearly are not enough,” said Nangabo.
Kwanza MP Wanyonyi said the government shouldn’t put much focus on the fight against the Coronavirus and forget the flood victims who have suffered for too long.
He said during his tenure as an employee at Lake Basin Development Authority he helped erect several dams in Kwanza which has been
destroyed by Chinese firms doing road construction in the area. He called upon the Chinese firms to fix the mess they created as the government looks for more solutions.
