With the Covid-19 causing disruption in multiple sectors globally and in Kenya, the education stalwarts, especially Institutions of higher learning and research Institutions have taken up the task of leading research towards finding a possible Covid-19 cure or vaccine.
Universities in Kenya have also not been left behind, coupled with the fact that some institutions have made masks, ventilators. Education PS Department of University Education and Research Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi reiterated that Universities in Kenya have already made steady contributions to the fight against Covid-19. Speaking during an interview with West FM, Nabukwesi said students and lecturers have made sanitizers, soaps, masks in Universities including Machakos Uni, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Uni, JKUAT among others, “They’ve made them and given them out without selling,” he added. He also noted that ventilators have been made, while efforts are being made collectively on the research front.
During the onset of the Coronavirus, Universities had been called upon to make meaningful contributions to the fight against Covid-19, including research.
