A 42 year old man committed suicide after his wife allegedly abandoned him and got married to a neighbour in Bondeni village, Lumakanda location in Lugari sub county. Confirming the incident Mwamba sub location assistant Chief Edwin Nashirobe said the deceased, Ernest Erasmo Nyongesa, a father of four, separated with his wife few months ago after the wife decided to get married to a neighbour and took all her belongings including the children with her.
The two lovebirds later moved from the village leaving him ailing and tortured psychologically before he decided to take his life in such a cruel manner. The body was discovered on Sunday mid-morning by a neighbour, Mrs Agrippina Lihavi Mwalili, who had gone to borrow a hammer, “My children had accidentally locked their keys inside the house and I decided to go and borrow a hammer from him so that I could break the padlock and after calling without response I pushed the door which was slightly open before I was shocked to see his body dangling from the roof,” explained Mrs Lihavi who later informed other villagers and the area administration.
Police officers from Lumakanda station removed the body from the scene and ferried it to Manyonyi village in the neighbouring Marakusi sub location in Lugari location for burial. “Though the cause of the act is not clear, the deceased had sold all his land and he has been ailing, he must also have gone through frustrations after his wife left him and got married to a neighbour and left together with the children,” said one of the residents.
