A truck driver was attacked on Friday night and killed by thugs at Mabanga area along Eldoret–Webuye highway in Lugari sub county.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Sub County Police Commander Patrick Maundu said the truck was ferrying cargo destined to Juba in the neighbouring Southern Sudan before the main fuel tank ran empty.
He said the driver together with his conductor alighted to drain fuel from the second tank before they were attacked by thugs who were armed with crude weapons.
The thugs stabbed the driver severally killing him on the spot while the conductor is believed to have escaped with injuries.
The police boss said the truck owner who was monitoring its movement via a tracker from Eldoret got concerned after the tracker showing the vehicle had stopped at the point close to four hours.
“The tracker showed him that the vehicle stopped there at 8pm and by 12am it had not resumed the journey with his efforts to reach both the driver and the conductor through their cellphones being futile,” said Maundu.
The owner then took his personal vehicle followed it to established what had happened, and he picked two police officers at the Spring Park roadblock who accompanied him to the scene where they were shocked to find blood stains in the vehicle before they discovered the driver’s body which had serious injuries hidden in a nearby maize plantation.
The body was removed and taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret as police launched investigation into the incident.
