The Health Sector has received an allocation of Kshs 111.7 billion in the 2020/2021 budgetary allocation. Treasury CS Ukur Yatani said the government is committed to promoting healthcare by scaling up Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the Counties. As part of the allocations, Kshs 50.3 billion has been set aside to cater for UHC and its enablers, Kshs 19.2 billion set aside to address and lower cases of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberclosis in Kenya.
Kshs 4.1 billion has been set aside for free maternity healthcare, Kshs 5.3 billion for transforming health systems and Kshs 1.8 billion to provide medical care for the elderly and disabled in the country. Medical Institutions have not been left behind in the allocations, with the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) receiving Kshs 15 billion, the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) receiving Kshs 10 billion. Kshs 7.2 billion for Kenya Medical Training Centres , Kshs 2.5 billion for the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Kshs 1.2 billion for the Mathare Hospital.
Kshs 4.3 billion as conditional grant for Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals at the Counties. On dealing with the strains brought about by the Covid-19 in the health sector, Kshs 1.2 billion has been allocated for the employment of 5,000 community healthcare workers, Kshs 500 million for the supply of 20,000 local beds to hospitals and Kshs 25 million for 50 walk through sanitizers at major hospitals and border points.
