Former Kakamega senator Dr. Boni Khalwale has been released on a Kshs 200,000 bond for failing to appear in court on 8th of June this year. This was after the former Senator presented himself at the Malinya DCI offices on Thursday afternoon in the company of his lawyer Danson Omar.
Khalwale was to answer charges regarding an attempt to incite Shinyalu residents against receiving relief food that was launched by Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa last week at the Kakamega airstrip and also going against COVID-19 measures put in place by the ministry of health to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.
He was accused of organising a luncheon at his Malinya home where he invited women groups to celebrate, charges that the senator dismissed. His lawyer Danson Omar confirmed that though the former Senator received the court orders, he couldn’t comply given that he was in Nairobi and travelling in and out of Nairobi was a challenge. He is to appear before a Kakamega court on Friday at 9.00 am.
